Row of London Mews Houses

I expect you’ve heard the saying –  the 3 most important things to consider when buying a home are location, location, location? In Feng Shui there’s a bit more to it than that but here’s my list of the Top 5 Feng Shui Things to Avoid When Buying a New Home:

Top 5  Feng Shui Things to Avoid When Buying a New Home

“Yin” Places

Yin energy is the quiet, passive and stagnant energy. The key places you should avoid are near graveyards, hospitals and churches.*

The energy of graveyards is past energy. It goes without saying that the energy isn’t active.

As places of worship, churches are also very calm and spiritual so won’t have the necessary fresh, yang energy you need in your surroundings to lead an active life.

Hospitals are most often used by people who are ill, which isn’t auspicious for your new neighbourhood.

Your home should be surrounded by fresh, strong energy that can support you. (A “supportive” home is one that provides a haven during the ebb and flow of day to day life.)

Basements

By their very nature basements are below ground and there is often reduced natural light. These two factors make them yin and potentially too lacking in fresh energy to give you the support you need or to let in opportunities etc.

Living in a basement can affect health and personal energy levels in general. It can impact men in particular and make them feel uncomfortable in the property.

The Position of the Door

The door of any building is the “mouth” and is the main source of energy into the property. It needs to be visible from the street, hallway, corridor etc. Houses or apartments with doors that are tucked out of sight get very little energy.

If a door or property is hidden, whether this is in the corner of a cul de sac, or positioned behind the staircase in an apartment building, it is harder for the energy to reach it.

The Shape of the Building

It can be difficult to find a regular shaped building and quirky layouts can be interesting. However a regular shape is best so that you aren’t missing out on good energy.

What if the money energy is missing or the area that relates to your personal wellbeing?! It’s much better to have a regular shaped home to give yourself a good start.

Layout

You should avoid buying a property where the front door faces the back door, a window or a bathroom. You will never be able to save money in this type of property.

The energy (in this case that means money) flows in through the front door and then straight through the house so whatever money comes in, goes out again.

Avoid a house with the stairs opposite the front door too. The energy is pushed back out by the stairs.
