Last week I caught myself with a classic case of December overwhelm, feeling pressured for not getting on with things. Then I reminded myself that this is the time of year when the energy slows down: whether you’re waiting for paperwork to come through, trying to get a plan going, getting something done to the house etc. It always seems ironic that the energy is so low just when you ‘re expected to gear up for Christmas, with all the shopping and preparations. It’s no wonder that so many of us get ill over the Christmas period, when we’ve been running on empty for so long.
It’s not just the lack of daylight that makes us feel weary and the victim of December overwhelm. The energy of the year itself runs down as we approach the Winter Solstice. In Imperial Feng Shui, it’s the solstice (21st December) that marks the change of energy and the start of the new year. From now on the energy is draining away.
Taking your time is important just now but how can you manage your energy at this time of year?
There’s no magic solution but if you can wait until after Christmas for any big projects – job or house moves, building work, work projects etc, then at least you aren’t working against the energy.
However, it is a good time to finish things so that you don’t carry the energy over into the next year. Even paying outstanding bills wherever possible means that you aren’t starting the year with a debt.
Plan
If you have a list, seriously reduce it – maybe no more that 3 items on it at any one time. (You can always do another list if you finish those tasks.) Once you acknowledge this slowing down in the energy, it removes a lot of pressure and things flow better, if more gently.
Preserve your energy
Don’t get too caught up in frenetic “busy-ness” that is everywhere.
Peace
Take some time and space for a few moments of calm. I try to I have 5 minutes somewhere calm and comfortable to retreat to when the outside world is too “peopley”.
Pace yourself – be more Jasper!
